Igor Sancho Amundarain

PhD Student

Igor Sancho has 18 years of clinical experience of working in sports medicine. He did his physiotherapy studies in Barcelona and after 8 months of granted clinical training in Denmark, he opened a clinic in San Sebastian, his home-town. His clinical praxis has always been linked to sports physiotherapy and he has worked 4 years for the Spanish Rugby Federation and 11 years for Gipuzkoa Basket Club (1st professional Spanish league (ACB)). 

All these years have given him the opportunity to accumulate big interest in the management of lower limb tendinopathies and have lead him to start a PHD. His topic involves the development and evaluation of the efficacy of the best practice exercise parameters for Achilles tendinopathy.

To date Igor has spent 9 months collecting data for his first prospective study, assessing runners with Achilles tendinopathy, alongside he is preparing a systematic review on “Biomechanical and neuromuscular alterations in subjects with Achilles tendinopathy in running and hopping tasks”.

He has also collaborated in a study that assess vertical stiffness and triceps surae strength among subjects with Achilles tendinopathy compared to controls that will be published soon.

Lastly, he has created an Infographic called “Management of Achilles Tendinopathy” that has been translated to 4 languages and has 17.000 views in 3 months.
